She Made Me Do It: This Is What’s Going Down!!

If the music industry ever grinds to a halt there’s a high probability it will be because Will Crewdson has decided to take a break. Unquestionably the epitome of the phrase ‘working musician’, Crewdson’s CV is beyond impressive, working with the likes of Adam Ant, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Bow Wow Wow, The Selecter, and the legend that is Tom Jones among many, many more. But for many it will be his work with Rachel Stamp, the goth-smeared glam’d up bastions of new age electro-indie that they know him from. For over a decade they were THE darlings and justifiably so. In between his various stints as resident guitarist to the cool and the hip, his own outpourings have been laced with the dirty distortion-infused guitar tones you would expect from the man behind such epics as Black Cherry and I Wanna Be Your Doll and his latest project of two years, She Made Me Do It, doesn’t depart too far on the guitar front from the influences he clearly wears proudly on his sleeve.  However, alongside former Rachel Stamp keyboardist Shaheena Dax now taking centre stage as vocalist, the duo have forayed more deeply into Europop than ever before, albeit with a darker edge.

Tuesday 18th April saw the latest EP release from She Made Me Do It, ‘What’s Going Down’, which sees Dax simmering dark vocal melodies while Crewdson pulls out six-string-sneers in a blend of Kraftwerk meets Bauhaus, at times almost bubblegum sweet, at others almost Nine Inch Nails dark.  This is music you would happily inject into your veins .

Don’t take my word for it, check out the latest release below or catch them this weekend at the Whitby Goth Festival.
