We Are Primordial: Come Join Us

People have been wondering what the hell is going on with all the Primordial Radio stuff I keep putting out, wondering why I incessantly keep imploring anyone and everyone to get involved, to buy even just one share at just over £15 to help ensure that Primordial Radio gets the chance to show the rock and metal community, and everyone else, just what a massive shot in the arm it can be to a musical genre being increasingly chewed up and thrown to the wolves of profit and exploitation.

So, why you ask?

Here is my answer……..

Why Primordial Radio? What is it that makes me so desperate, yes desperate to see this radio station actually see the light of day? Is it having previously listened to Moose, Dews and Pete’s unique brand of rock radio and knowing instantly that what they offered was exactly what I wanted and finding that, apparently a whole army of listeners also wanted? Is it what kept me entertained for every working hour and most of my free time and got me through some pretty crappy times?. Is it wanting to return to the mentally amusing good elements of Team Rock? Or is it the thought that this is quite possibly the last chance the rock and metal community have to have a voice, a home that actually is for us and not just some business model loosely frameworked to give minimum content for maximum profit?
It’s a depressing fact that right now, despite a couple of niche radio shows, the mainstream radio networks do not offer us anything of substance, confining any pittance of scheduling to times that are kept well outside normal listening hours. Whatever market info they are being fed they are missing out on a number of critical factors, and these factors are exactly what will guarantee Primordial Radio success, should it achieve the funding it needs to launch.

  • Loyalty: we have always been outsiders, not just to the media establishments but to society in general. It’s the black leather jacket, studs and chains, bad guys image thing that is still perpetuated to this day. It is used to alienate us, separate us but what it actually does do is make us fiercely loyal to those who share our common interest, rock and metal and the myriad of genres that fall within that loose label; those who treat us as equals and not just as some cash cow who are so desperate for any scraps thrown to us that we will accept being exploited and robbed blind in the process; those who actually want to engage with us and build a home, a community that is actually for us, free of ego and hierarchy, a place we will always come back to. That, to me is what Primordial Radio is offering and in return they will always have my loyalty. It’s OUR home, it’s our ‘Friday night down the pub having a few beers, having a laugh with your mates to a great rock soundtrack in the background’ only this is any time we want it!
  • Longevity: We are going nowhere. We are like a great nomadic tribe wandering in the wilderness, followers of our own brand of religion, a music that enduringly binds us together and always will. Our needs never change much, the only transient thing in this great journey of ours is the place we get to stay for a while before we get moved on for a perceived more profitable market. I am sick of radio stations painting themselves out to be there for the audience when it is so blatantly obvious that they couldn’t give a damn about the listener. Team Rock was the closest thing to feeling part of something until its business model imploded but that feeling came from the dj’s – Moose, Dews and Pete. Primordial Radio has the foundations of everything we need, right there.
  • Passionate: Look around social media at the efforts to get Primordial Radio funded and to get it out on the airwaves and you will see how passionate we are. We so passionately believe in this because we have tasted what this can be and we want more but we want it Primordial Radio flavoured, an offering we are all creating together through a mutual passion for the music and an ethos that we all share.
  • Family: And whilst the main protagonists behind Primordial Radio may be the figureheads, and quite rightly so, cementing this all together is a family, a real, solid, dedicated, passionate, loyal, inspired family. We are a family brought together through a shared common interest standing side by side.

Come join us. We.Are.Primordial.

Go check out the Seedrs funding page PrimordialRadio.com/GoFundYourself and see for yourself why I am pushing like hell to see this through to launch. Even if you can only invest one share or even if you know someone who might be interested, please do whatever you can.

PRIMORDIAL RADIO – FUND THIS!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year we lost the incomparable entity that was the freak show of Team Rock Radio, doomed to the ethereal wasteland of wasted opportunities.

On the 8th May 2017 the rock and metal community have a chance to turn our attention from the dark days of the past and build a future that will become a beacon of hope for our community.

Former Team Rock dj’s Moose, Dewsbury and Pete Bailey, along with sound supremo Mark Hillman have been working hard behind the scenes to put together a venture that all of us have a vested interest in ensuring succeeds. And on the 8th May that opportunity explodes into life via a Seedrs funding bid, a chance for us to create the foundations of a radio station, in all the myriad of opportunities that that presents, one that YOU as much as them can call home, a place where we truly do belong, way beyond the empty rhetoric that belong held before.

This is it, truly. This is potentially last orders. The scene has gone through so many changes over the last few years and profiteering has stripped away the very heart of what we stood for and goodwill has been exploited to such an extent that rock radio has lost its way.

It is time to put us right back on track and get behind Primordial Radio in whatever way you can, even if it is just spreading the word. And please, spread this as far and wide as you can before we are lost to the nothingness that is out there.

Take a look at www.PrimordialRadio.com for more info and details of just how integral you are to this and how to be part of the future of rock radio.

Ones To Watch: WEEKEND RECOVERY

I love a big chunk of pop-punk power done well and Kent newcomers, WEEKEND RECOVERY take a page straight out of the Lacey Sturm era FLYLEAF‘s no-nonsense playbook and deliver that in abundance. With a standout vocal from Lorin Forster and punchy melodies from a tight band, Weekend Recovery will certainly be pulling new followers in to their orbit as they take to the road later this year supporting Hands Off Gretel, making it an unmissable night.

Definitely ones to watch out for! See for yourselves in the latest release, FOCUS, taken from their sublime RUMOURS EP.

THOSE DAMN CROWS: Interview and Debut Album Review (Preamble)

It’s been a weirdly odd sort of a week so far, musically. Odd in a good way. Odd can be good, right? While Monday’s are normally spent sifting through submissions and listening to the previous weeks releases, I find myself subtly displaced from the stability of this aural rock island I tend to inhabit. Actually that’s not entirely true. There has been a substantial shift and it has distorted my musical points of reference on a number of levels, not least of all my expectations from both emerging and established bands alike.

You see, last week I hit the sweet spot. Friday’s batch of releases brought with it the feverishly anticipated new vinyl, Bad Vibrations from A Day To Remember but prior to that I had received a pre-release review copy of a, to me previously unheard of and possibly relatively unknown you, Welsh band, Those Damn Crows.

If you take a brief read on these pages you will see my response to their debut album and that response has elicited an impending full album review on InbetweenTheScreams and an interview with the band. What you wont have seen is my review of an ADTR album that I had been salivating over for months prior to release, built on a platform of two incredible singles taken from it in the form of the albums opening two tracks, Bad Vibrations and the crushingly relentless Paranoia.

You see, it’s not that the A Day To Remember album isn’t as good as I had anticipated, it is everything I had expected and maybe slightly more. The issue is, it has been totally eclipsed by an album from a band that, if all was fair in the music industry, would be on their fifth sell-out world tour before retreating to their Welsh homeland studio to pen another slice of rock history in the making.

But they are not. Outside of these pages and plugging away amongst the musical mediocrity in the mainstream social media, there exists a band who have so brutally and wilfully smashed my expectations of a debut album from an unknown band that I almost feel sorry for any band sending me their future efforts. On every level, in every respect this band scream ROCK. Scratch that. This band have taken over ROCK and I don’t think it’s coming back in any form as we knew it. And you know something…………….?

I fucking love the fact that five guys from Wales are on the cusp of delivering an album of such intensity that it has opened my eyes to possibilities and simultaneously sharpened my view on what is currently being delivered and I cannot wait to bring you the review and delve deeper into the psyche of a band that can totally dominate the rock scene for years to come, yet have remained relatively hidden from view. Expect band history, influences, gear talk, highs lows and expectations and hopefully some clarity on where the fuck they have been all this time.

So check back soon and read why there’s no point in resisting, there’s a sledgehammer with ROCK’s name on it heading your way!

THOSE GODDAMNMOTHERFUCKING CROWS!!!

OH FUCKING YEAH!!!

Video Release: THOSE DAMN CROWS – BLINK OF AN EYE

Monday 5th September saw the release of the stunning video to accompany the amazing second single, BLINK OF AN EYE  by THOSE DAMN CROWS off their soon to be released debut album, Murder and the Motive and what a stupendous piece of work it is by Dark Fable Media, the same people behind the video for the bands first single, Fear of the Broken.

TDC1

THOSE DAMN CROWS are pulling in the quality people behind them to support their debut album and Dark Fable Media have produced an epic piece of cinematography to go with this sublime track and are no strangers to the music scene, having produced work for the likes of Serj Tankian (System of a Down),  Ihsahn, Tom Morello, Devin Townsend and Skindred’s Benji Webbe among many others.

THOSE DAMN CROWS are rapidly becoming impossible to ignore, with an aural arsenal built for domination and dominate they most certainly will at this rate.

ENJOY!!

As usual, please spread the word via all the usual social channels. I am sure you will agree, this band deserve every effort to get them out there!

Cheers

Gary
