PRIMORDIAL RADIO?: The Press Release

On the back of a very successful Seedrs funding campaign that saw Primordial Radio significantly over fund, reaching a stunning total of £150,000 again the initial target of £130,000, Primordial Radio have issued a Press Release to the music and radio community, as follows:

Rock and Metal Community Totally Smashes Primordial Radio’s Funding Target

Primordial Radio, a brand new UK radio station for the rock and metal community has successfully overfunded their crowd equity target of 130k.  A staggering 853 investors backed the project to the tune of 150k by the end of the campaign, with all of them buying into the idea of combining the freedom and control of digital streaming with the intimacy and personality of radio.

Primordial’s key executive team, all of whom were made redundant last year when TeamRock went into receivership, has a wealth of experience within the rock industry and completely understand the challenges of delivering a rock and metal station using the traditional model and decided to turn the format on its head!

“Traditionally, media companies garner support from industry and advertisers, build a radio station, and then search for its audience.” said Primordial’s Chief Executive, Hugh ‘Moose’ Evans.  “We simply decided to first find the audience, ask them what they wanted, and build from there.   We now have a loyal and dedicated community, have begun building the service, and are ready to introduce Primordial to the rest of the world.”

“The commercial radio choices for the rock and metal community have been so limited throughout the years and there have been several false dawns and let-downs.  With Primordial the community owns the station and will be collectively responsible for it on every level.  This community, like many other niche genres, has been marginalised and dismissed.  Our modest success to date is testament to the passion and loyalty of the rock and metal community and proves people will support a good quality rock and metal station.”

The next stage for the team is to develop its service technology and membership platforms.  Beyond that the agenda will be set by the opinions, reactions, and needs of its community.   Primordial will be flexible and reactive.

Primordial Radio is a premium rock and metal service that provides personality led radio, podcasts, video, and events. The station will generate revenues from membership, competitions, events, merchandise, and sponsorship.

We. Are. Primordial

If you know me, follow me or even gyrate at anywhere near the same gravitational frequency as me you will not have failed to have seen or heard me reference PRIMORDIAL RADIO.

I am not going to ramble on about why I believe you need to get involved with the future of rock and metal radio, there are people farmore qualified than me who can educate you……, why not hear it for yourself from the main guys involved?

So here they are in the introductory video they produced for their Seedrs funding bid.

So now you know, what are you waiting for?

CLICK HERE for the Seedrs Primordial Radio funding page

then go tell the world that you believe in the future of rock radio.

Support so far is incredible with the figure standing at £62,370 as of 08:20 17th May.That’s 48% of the way there but we really, really need to push this home hard, so anything you can to raise awareness needs doing, right now.

Go…. be crazy, be resolute, be confident, BE PRIMORDIAL!

LATEST UPDATE: 13:00 15th May – An astonishing £60,661 has been raised out of the £130,012 required. That’s 47% of the funding target from 446 funders but WE HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING AND GET THE MESSAGE OUT THERE.

We all need this to succeed, to break away from the crass exploitation of our community by service providers who are only interested in one thing, maximising the money they can make from us by offering the least amount of content.

PRIMORDIAL RADIO builds its ethos, its whole future existence on the principle that ROCK RADIO will not work without making the listener, the viewer, the peruser of content the very heart and soul of the experience. This is a rock and metal venture FOR THE COMMUNITY, BY THE COMMUNITY. IT’S Friday night in the pub with your mates ANY TIME YOU WANT IT. It’s that quiet moment you get in work when all you need is some respite from the daily grind. It is whatever you want it to be.

WE have a chance to create something UNIQUE, something that will change the way our community is treated for ever. But it’s a one-shot chance and it needs you. Go visit the Primordial Radio Seedrs funding page via

Read the vision of the future, watch the video that passionately details how that vision can be engaged and then join us, the many who fervently believe that finally we have the chance to build a home for the rock and metal community that truly is ours, FOR US, BY US…..

PRIMORDIAL RADIO – FUND THIS!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year we lost the incomparable entity that was the freak show of Team Rock Radio, doomed to the ethereal wasteland of wasted opportunities.

On the 8th May 2017 the rock and metal community have a chance to turn our attention from the dark days of the past and build a future that will become a beacon of hope for our community.

Former Team Rock dj’s Moose, Dewsbury and Pete Bailey, along with sound supremo Mark Hillman have been working hard behind the scenes to put together a venture that all of us have a vested interest in ensuring succeeds. And on the 8th May that opportunity explodes into life via a Seedrs funding bid, a chance for us to create the foundations of a radio station, in all the myriad of opportunities that that presents, one that YOU as much as them can call home, a place where we truly do belong, way beyond the empty rhetoric that belong held before.

This is it, truly. This is potentially last orders. The scene has gone through so many changes over the last few years and profiteering has stripped away the very heart of what we stood for and goodwill has been exploited to such an extent that rock radio has lost its way.

It is time to put us right back on track and get behind Primordial Radio in whatever way you can, even if it is just spreading the word. And please, spread this as far and wide as you can before we are lost to the nothingness that is out there.

Take a look at for more info and details of just how integral you are to this and how to be part of the future of rock radio.

The Inbetween The Screams ‘Single of the Week’: THE PEARL HARTS – HIT THE BOTTLE

InbetweenTheScreams is immensely happy to have stumbled across this weeks Single of the Week and hereby issue a screaming declaration that you better get yourselves dug in because THE PEARL HARTS are about to kick your fucking defences down, tear your perceptions apart and fuck up your world. And you are going to FUCKING LOVE IT!!!

In rock there are a few unequivocal truths amidst a sea of smoke and mirror lies and subterfuge. Number one is… true talent will never be ignored for long, no matter how the music industry may try. Secondly…strip any decent band back to the basics and you’ll be left with a rock solid drummer and a wild heart of a front person. And that is exactly what THE PEARL HARTS is, two wolves in sheeps clothing about to rip your hearts out after leading you on the night out of a lifetime. OUTLAWS outside your front door, just waiting!

The fact that THE PEARL HARTS are in such demand by the likes of Skunk Anansie, Garbage and Stereophonics as an opening act is a clear indicator of the ability of this duo to put over a powerhouse of a sound and deliver it live, night after night and their first release off their impending debut album, HIT THE BOTTLE, is a showcase of what to expect, with Sara laying down a barrage of brutal stick work, throughout which Kirsty delivers her six string attack and vocal invocation to wanton hedonism; dirty, sweaty blues-tinged, punk-hearted, beautiful armageddon.

There are big things ahead for this band, huge things and InbetweenTheScreams can’t wait to get its hands on the album and…..

…in the meantime we are thrilled to announce that prior to the album release we will be bringing you an interview with Sara and Kirsty, digging into their past, their road to where they are, what lights their fire and trips their switches and what lies ahead.

And here is this weeks Single of The Week – THE PEARL HARTS: HIT THE BOTTLE

I have always had a penchant for music that grabs you emotionally, spiritually, ethereally and takes you on a lyrical journey cloaked in an aural soundstage to signpost the road ahead. Under A Banner have a rich tapestry of such voyages with myself an eager passenger as they unfurl their Folk Rock banner across previously self-funded releases, so the news early in the year that the band had signed to Bad Elephant Music, and that there would be a third studio album to come in the autumn has had me devouring any morsel of news released on its progress.  And now the waiting is over……….

And that wait most certainly was not in vain.

The Wild Places is certain to exceed the expectations of even the most demanding existing Under A Banner fans whilst attracting a whole host of new admirers. If you gravitate towards the New Model Army or Levellers sphere of rock, that rousing, foot-stomping, Celtic tinged folk rock, then Under A Banner have gift-wrapped an almighty feast of music for you to savour.

Under the supremely talented Mastering of Jon Astley, he of Zeppelin, Stones, Who etc etc etc fame, the band seem tighter than ever but also more adventurous, more focused. There is a sublime interweaving of melody lines throughout The Wild Places that spiral ever higher, creating a spotlight from which singer Adam Broadhurst holds you in the palm of his hand while he eloquently regales you with tales of loss, of hope, or grabs you firmly by the collar and reels you around the floor, heart thumping, voices roaring out in unison an ode to the fight ahead in impassioned tones, imploring those watching to join in. That is what excites me about Under A Banner. This is music to make memories to with a room, a field, a stadium of like-minded folk giving everything you have.

This is an album to participate in, to revel in, to rebel against the grayness to. To reveal its heart you only need to listen.

Standout tracks? You may as well just run the track list! Each will entice, enthrall, entwine in their own way but if pushed I would say LEGION is a classic in the making, the opening track In The End is the purest essence of everything that is Under A Banner along with the closing track, World of Hope but the penultimate track, Already There has huge hit written across every stave, every emotional word from a melancholy lament of exploration and revelation.

Special mention to Isaac Collier for the hauntingly beautiful cello on the opening track In The End and track eleven, Already There.  Take a bow sir.

Adam, Tim, Si, Jake and Kat have produced a beautifully textured album that is absolutely deserving of a 10/10 InbetweenTheScreams rating.

This album is waiting for you. Go and buy it. NOW!!

Album Review: IDLEWAR’s Debut Album – IMPULSE

Almost a year ago to the day I received a message on Twitter from Pete Pagonis, drummer of Orange County grunge merchants IDLEWAR thanking me for following them back and sending a link to a track off their EP ‘Dig In’. And dig in I truly did, to a feast of heavy riffs and seething, dark and pounding rhythms. It was clear to see that here was a band with a mission and with a talent to make it happen. But the music industry, especially in the heavy rock end of the spectrum isn’t exactly a place where dreams are made. Rather it has a propensity to crush aspirations. So they became a pet project to support them in any way I could, to get their name known and their music heard as they released tracks and it was great to see their support began to grow on the back of their releases.

It’s been a very interesting journey for Pete, guitarist Rick Graham and bassist/vocalist James Blake over the year leading up to the release of their debut album, IMPULSE and the sweat and blood they put into this album and the groundwork they have invested in in building the support has produced a stunning album that definitely has a very healthy fanbase awaiting out there.

Impulse is a dark monster of an album with riff’s that rip you from your seat and pummel you relentlessly like each track knows your weaknesses and exploits them mercilessly. This band kick like a five-piece and are very reminiscent of early NIN/Stone Temple Pilots era grunge/stoner/doom rock and man they have an arsenal of licks to grab you by the balls with.

Idlewar 2

The album wears a very raw edged sound, totally befitting the material but in an extremely well produced way, with Pete Pagonas himself taking the production seat and the album being mastered by the highly acclaimed, Grammy winning Brian Lucey of MagicGardenMastering fame (think Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’, Ghost ‘Meliora’, Black Keys El Camino amongst many).

Highlights of the album for me are the second track, SOUL with its dischordant STONER thunderous riff and James heavy lament, the uptempo INNOCENT and the Soundgarden-esque APATHY but to say stand out implies the others are less brutal and that they most definitely are not. It is an album that has many complexities and layers and rewards you by revealing more with each listen.

Their latest single off the album, On Our Knees received an InbetweenTheScreams Record of The Week slot and ….  a 9/10 InbetweenTheScreams rating!!!

IMPULSE follows in it’s footsteps with a very impressive InbetweenTheScreams 9/10 and cruelly, the only reason it drops that perfect 10/10 is that it isn’t yet available on vinyl….. I know, harsh!! Maybe the follow-up album, eh? And mark my words, IDLEWAR will build on the undoubted success of this album and there will be a second album.

IMPULSE is a truly barn stormer of an album and you will be able to see just how huge a sound this creates live as IDLEWAR embark on their first UK TOUR this winter with STONE BROKEN

2016 UK Tour

You definitely do not want to miss these guys!!

Rick Graham: Guitar

Pete Pagonis: Drums

THOSE DAMN CROWS: Interview and Debut Album Review (Preamble)

It’s been a weirdly odd sort of a week so far, musically. Odd in a good way. Odd can be good, right? While Monday’s are normally spent sifting through submissions and listening to the previous weeks releases, I find myself subtly displaced from the stability of this aural rock island I tend to inhabit. Actually that’s not entirely true. There has been a substantial shift and it has distorted my musical points of reference on a number of levels, not least of all my expectations from both emerging and established bands alike.

You see, last week I hit the sweet spot. Friday’s batch of releases brought with it the feverishly anticipated new vinyl, Bad Vibrations from A Day To Remember but prior to that I had received a pre-release review copy of a, to me previously unheard of and possibly relatively unknown you, Welsh band, Those Damn Crows.

If you take a brief read on these pages you will see my response to their debut album and that response has elicited an impending full album review on InbetweenTheScreams and an interview with the band. What you wont have seen is my review of an ADTR album that I had been salivating over for months prior to release, built on a platform of two incredible singles taken from it in the form of the albums opening two tracks, Bad Vibrations and the crushingly relentless Paranoia.

You see, it’s not that the A Day To Remember album isn’t as good as I had anticipated, it is everything I had expected and maybe slightly more. The issue is, it has been totally eclipsed by an album from a band that, if all was fair in the music industry, would be on their fifth sell-out world tour before retreating to their Welsh homeland studio to pen another slice of rock history in the making.

But they are not. Outside of these pages and plugging away amongst the musical mediocrity in the mainstream social media, there exists a band who have so brutally and wilfully smashed my expectations of a debut album from an unknown band that I almost feel sorry for any band sending me their future efforts. On every level, in every respect this band scream ROCK. Scratch that. This band have taken over ROCK and I don’t think it’s coming back in any form as we knew it. And you know something…………….?

I fucking love the fact that five guys from Wales are on the cusp of delivering an album of such intensity that it has opened my eyes to possibilities and simultaneously sharpened my view on what is currently being delivered and I cannot wait to bring you the review and delve deeper into the psyche of a band that can totally dominate the rock scene for years to come, yet have remained relatively hidden from view. Expect band history, influences, gear talk, highs lows and expectations and hopefully some clarity on where the fuck they have been all this time.

So check back soon and read why there’s no point in resisting, there’s a sledgehammer with ROCK’s name on it heading your way!
